Amanda Hutcheson - Finding a New Me

30 May 2026

Amanda Hutcheson did not come to real estate through a traditional path. She came to it as a mum of five children, looking for something flexible that would allow her to work while still being present for her family. It was a practical decision, but it turned into something far bigger than she ever expected.

At Arizto, Amanda found more than a career. She found herself. “After joining Arizto, I never knew I was so able, if that makes sense. I have actually found a new me. I have found a new sense of independence, while still feeling supported.”

The difference, she says, is the culture. “I saw a post the other day that said something like, ‘You need support, not pressure,’ and that really resonated with me. That is exactly how I feel at Arizto. I feel supported, not pressured.” When a former contact asked if she had any regrets about choosing Arizto, Amanda’s answer was clear: “No. And I meant it.”

If she could give advice to her younger self, it would be simple. “Get out on your own, if you can. Have faith in yourself. I am so pleased I have done it.”

Amanda’s approach is refreshingly human. She can get a listing up and running in about three days, with a process that runs smoothly as long as everything is in order. She admits she is not the most computer-literate person, but she is getting there. What she lacks in tech confidence, she makes up for with warmth, honesty and a genuine connection with her clients.

For Amanda, honesty and feeling listened to are what buyers and sellers value most. It is a principle she lives by in every conversation.

She is quick to challenge the myth that all agents are rich. “A lot of people think we are rich. But we are not all rich. I am a mum. I have seven children and eight grandchildren. I am not that rich.” It is the kind of honest, grounded perspective that makes her so relatable to the people she works with.

Her advice to sellers is practical and compassionate. “Less is more. But you still have to live there.” Amanda pushes back against the idea that sellers need to strip their homes of everything personal. “It is still your home. You have got to be able to live in it.”

Amanda works in Timaru, a place she champions as an amazing spot to raise children. With the bay, beaches and mountains right on the doorstep, there is no shortage of adventure. And when it comes to property trends, Timaru does not always follow the national patterns. “Some centres have seen prices drop, but Timaru has remained strong.”

One of her proudest moments was when a young couple told her she had made such an impression on them that they did not even worry about going to other companies. Another was helping a client who had put in nine other offers elsewhere finally find the right property and buy it through Amanda.

Outside of real estate, Amanda’s world revolves around her family. Camping, the water, nature and especially her grandchildren. “I am very, very close with my family.”

If she could list a property for any celebrity, Amanda’s answer is deeply personal. “Rather than a celebrity, it would be my nana, just so I could talk to her again. She passed away when I was pregnant with my third child, and I never got the opportunity to tell her. There are moments when I really wish I could share things with her, just to have a chat and sneak in a hug.”

Amanda Hutcheson is proof that you do not need a polished corporate background to be a brilliant agent. What you need is heart, honesty and the willingness to show up for people. In Timaru, that is exactly what she does.
