Arizto offers more for less
It all began with a couple of renegades from Northland who set out eight years ago to revolutionise customary real estate trading procedures and save New Zealanders money.
Read moreMark Ford arrived in New Zealand in 2006 from the United Kingdom with nothing but backpacks and a desire to stay. He and his wife Chris obtained an entrepreneurial visa and ran their business for three years before gaining citizenship. When the business chapter closed, Mark asked himself what came next. He wanted to be his own boss, and real estate appealed because it meant meeting people every day. That was 2009, and the journey has not stopped since.
Mark spent almost 15 years with a previous low-fee employer, building a strong reputation in Dunedin where he sold close to 400 properties. When he and Chris made the major move north to Amberley in Canterbury, Arizto’s digital systems and the prospect of a new challenge proved irresistible.
“Moving up from my established area in Dunedin to Amberley was a big decision. Then Arizto’s digital systems tempted me for a new challenge with not just a new company, but a new location.”
At Arizto, Mark values the paperless process, the fixed fee structure and the full marketing packages. It is a setup that allows him to focus on his clients without the administrative burden that often bogs agents down.
For Mark, trusting relationships are the cornerstone of the business. “It has to be trust, honesty and professionalism.” He is also keen to bust the myth that agents are all mega-rich, making lots of money for no work. “The reality is very different.”
His advice to sellers is grounded and practical. “Ensure your home is ready for the market and be able to work with your chosen agent, someone you click with and trust, even though honesty in pricing can be tough.” He knows from experience that managing expectations around pricing can be one of the hardest but most important conversations an agent has.
The biggest lesson Mark has taken from his career is to remain professional and honest at all times. “Some expectations from clients can be difficult if their price is not achieved.” It is a reality he navigates with patience and integrity.
Moving to Amberley has not been without its challenges. Building a completely new client base without the established colleagues he had built trust with over many years has been isolating at times. But Mark is committed to the region and optimistic about its future. The market has been noticeably quieter than other towns, but he sees signs of positive change ahead.
One client who has trusted Mark to sell three properties in the past twelve months is a testament to the relationships he builds and the consistency he delivers.
Outside of real estate, Mark and Chris are avid scuba divers who have travelled to over 50 countries. They love hiking and exploring, and Mark remains a devoted supporter of his boyhood football club, Birmingham City.
If he could list a property for any celebrity? “David Attenborough. An amazing guy who has lived life to the full.”
