redundancy. After 13 years at Spark, Anna accepted a voluntary redundancy, a moment that
could have felt uncertain, but instead became the start of something unexpected. Around the
same time her father reconnected with a long-time real estate agent. Within 24 hours, Anna had
a foot in the door with real estate.
What began by accident quickly became a career she genuinely loves.

Anna James's path to a real estate career was not initially part of her grand plan. After 13 years,
Anna accepted a voluntary redundancy from Spark. What might have been a moment of
uncertainty became an unexpected opportunity when at the time, her father reconnected with a
long-time real estate agent. Within a day, Anna found herself a foot in the real estate door.
"I fell into it," Anna admits of the beginning. Yet, the accidental start quickly blossomed into a
career she is genuinely passionate about. "But I've never looked back."
If Anna could go back and give herself advice at the start of her career it would be simple,
yourself. Back your instincts. Don’t overthink it, you’re more capable than you think.”
Real estate has its highs and lows. It requires resilience, confidence and strong relationships.
Anna believes success comes not just from skill, but from aligning yourself with supportive,
like-minded people who share your values. That alignment is exactly what she found at Arizto.
genuinely feel that Arizto cares about its people,” she explained.
For Anna, the company’s mission to provide more affordable real estate services to Kiwis isn’t
just a marketing message, it’s purpose-driven work. It challenges a traditional industry model
and replaces it with transparency. “There’s a strong sense of purpose. It’s about more than just
the bottom line.”
Arizto’s flat-fee structure builds trust from day one. Clients understand the cost upfront, without
ambiguity. Combined with strong marketing, smart technology and skilled negotiation, Anna is
able to deliver the same high-level service as traditional agencies, but in a more efficient,
cost-effective way. “The difference is how we charge, not how we perform.
One of the biggest misconceptions Anna encounters is the idea that a more affordable fee
means a reduced service. It doesn’t. “We deliver the same high-quality marketing, negotiation
and client care as any traditional agency. ” In today’s market especially, buyers and sellers value
honesty above all else. Not ego. Not inflated promises. Just clear, realistic advice.
“Trust is everything. People want to know you’re genuine and truly working in their best
interests.” That trust is built through transparency, data-driven pricing and clear communication,
qualities Anna prioritises every day. For Anna, real estate is never just about houses.
“It’s personal. Often tied to big life changes.”
One recent sale stands out in particular. A couple were navigating incredibly different
circumstances after a terminal cancer diagnosis. Their priority wasn’t extracting the highest
possible price, it was certainty and speed. They needed peace of mind and time was critical.
Anna quickly prepared the property for market and leveraged her buyer network to create
immediate interest. Within around 10 days, a sale was secured. “It gave them clarity during an
overwhelming time. ” Moments like that reinforce why she does what she does. Sometimes
success isn’t measured in dollars, it’s measured in impact.
Anna works across Selwyn, a district she describes as offering the perfect balance between
lifestyle and convenience. “Selwyn offers an incredible balance of lifestyle and convenience,
space, modern homes, great schools and a strong sense of community, all within easy reach of
Christchurch.”
From the wetlands and walkways of Lincoln to Foster Park and the Rolleston Aquatic Centre,
Selwyn continues to grow rapidly while maintaining its connected, community-focussed feel.
The building boom of recent years has transformed the landscape, new subdivisions, new
amenities, expanding schools, bringing opportunity and choice to buyers.
Getting the foundation right from the start is critical, encompassing preparation, presentation,
and pricing. Key steps include decluttering, completing minor maintenance, considering
professional staging, and selecting an agent who offers honest, data-driven advice. Establishing
this strong base is paramount for a successful campaign.
Anna maintains a healthy work-life balance through her hobbies, which include ballet classes
and the recently acquired skill of line dancing. To unwind, she enjoys spending time by the
beach, fishing, and boating. She also keeps grounded by traveling, indulging in the occasional
bit of "trashy TV," and prioritising time to recharge.
And if she could list a property for anyone?
“Because I’m always up for a laugh, Hugh Hefner. Selling the Playboy Mansion would’ve been
iconic.”
Anna James brings calm confidence, transparency and genuine care to every transaction. She
believes in backing herself, backing her clients and backing a model that delivers value without
compromising service. For her, real estate isn’t about ego or inflated expectations. It’s about
clarity, honesty and helping people move forward with confidence, especially when it matters
most.
